The e-waste crisis
The waste plastic crisis is growing, 12 tonnes of virgin plastic is manufactured globally every second. This is the tidal wave of waste that we are up against, 220 million tonnes of plastic waste was generated globally in 2024.
This waste is finding its way into our oceans and into landfill and there are no signs of this stopping
anytime soon, Taking years to break down and causing microplastic particles to break off and in turn end up in our bodies. People diagnosed with dementia have up to 10 times more microplastics found in their brains.
Microfactories are a modular solution that can be scaled up to process this waste and convert it into feedstock for the supply chain.
How we solve it
Renew IT has partnered with UNSW to build a MicrofactorieTM inside its headquarters at Lane Cove NSW to transform e-waste processing. Our partnership with UNSW, led by Professor Veena Sahajwalla, 2022 Australian of the Year in New South Wales, bridges academia and industry and makes us the sole ITAD globally to pioneer this groundbreaking technology.
We’re looking to recover valuable resources and remake new products, such as 3D printer filament from e-waste
plastics, propelling sustainable tech innovation forward while solving the e-waste problem.
